"A GENEALOGICAL POTPOURRI"


          The Spring Conference of the Virginia Genealogical Society (VGS) will be held at the Library of Virginia in Richmond, Virginia, on Saturday, April 7, 2001. The Library is located at 800 East Broad Street.


          SPEAKERS:

          Dorothy Boyd-Rush, Ph.D., is dean of the Graduate School at James Madison University, President of VGS, contributor to the Magazine of Virginia Genealogy, and book review editor for APG. She is a prolific author and a much sought-after speaker.

          Robert Young Clay is a longtime member and Fellow of VGS. He recently retired as the senior reference archivist at the Library of Virginia where he assisted genealogical researchers for almost 30 years. Bob has spoken widely on the use and understanding of Virginia records.

          Barbara Vines Little, M.Ed., CG, a former president of VGS, edits the Society's newsletter and the Magazine of Virginia Genealogy. Barbara specializes in Virginia record sources, land platting, neighborhood reconstruction and tax records. She lectures widely and has published three volumes of Virginia court records.

          Marie Martin Murphy, CGRS, is a professional genealogist and lecturer who has spent more than 30 years researching Virginia families. She is Vice President of VGS, president of the Central Virginia Genealogical Society, and a charter member of the Genealogical Speakers Guild.

          Joanne Lovelace Nance, former co-editor of the Society's newsletter, past president, and past VGS board member. Joanne is an author, lecturer, and a Virginia researcher specializing in county records.

          **NOTE: Please neatly print or type your question on a separate sheet of paper and submit it with your registration form. One question per registrant please. Questions will be drawn at random and answered as time permits.


          ACCOMMODATIONS:

          There are several hotels near the Library of Virginia: The Richmond Marriott (804) 643-3400, and the Richmond Omni (804) 344-7000. Both have weekend rates.

          There are several parking lots near the Library. Parking in the Library lot is reserved for library patrons and is not permitted for conference attendees.


          OTHER:

          Vendors of books, software, forms, and other items of interest to researchers will be available all day. Be sure to visit them at breaks.

          Please note if a vegetarian meal is requested. Pre registration by March 21, 2001, includes lunch. Meal reservations received after this date cannot be guaranteed.

            Registration begins at 8:15 in the hallway outside the Lecture Hall at the Library.


            REGISTRATION DETAILS:

            To pre-register by March 21, 2001, send a personal check or money order for $30.00 ($35 non-VGS member) per registrant, payable to the Virginia Genealogical Society, to our address given above.

            After March 21, 2001, registration is $35.00 ($40 non-VGS member).

            Cancellations received after March 21, 2001, will not be refunded.
