          Death Notices from Richmond, Virginia Newspapers, 1821-1840. There was no provision to keep records of death prior to 1853. However, clues may be gleaned from isolated church papers, family Bibles, or newspapers. Death notices in the Richmond area newspapers were not limited to the immediate vicinity but are a statewide reference. 347 pp., paper; (1987) ISBN 1-888192-00-3. Out of Stock (11/07).

          Marriage Notices from Richmond, Virginia Newspapers, 1821-1840. Although marriages were kept as a public record in Virginia prior to 1853, parents were not listed unless the bride or groom was under age. These notices provide additional details for marriges recorded elsewhere. In some cases they provide the only record of the nuptials. 238 pp., paper; (1988) ISBN 1-888192-01-1. Price $20.00.           Marriage Notices from Richmond, Virginia Newspapers, 1841-1853. This volume brings this valuable reference series to 1853 when registration of vital records began in Virginia. Notices are not limited to Richmond, but announce marriages that occurred throughout the state. 360 pp., paper; (1997) ISBN 1-888192-12-7. Price $25.00.

          Index to Hayden's Virginia Genealogies. Horace Edwin Hayden's Virginia Genealogies..., in over 700 pages presents information on the Glassell, Ball, Brown, Bryan, Conway, Daniel, Ewell, Holladay, Lewis, Littlepage, Moncure, Peyton, Robinson, Scott, Taylor, and Wallace families, and touches on many others. Several editions have been printed over the years, with different indexes. This complete full-name index was compiled by Rena Gray Fazel and in cooperation with the Virginia Historical Society. 205 pp., cloth; (1977) ISBN 0-89157-021-7. Price $12.50.

          List of Virginia-Based Researchers. The Society maintains and periodically updates a list of Virginia-based researchers. The list is provided upon request, and receipt of a $.55 return address business envelope. A version of the list is also maintained on our Website as a Word document. Note: Inclusion on this list carries no endorsement by the VGS nor is VGS accountable for any inadvertent misrepresentation contained therein.

          When ordering, Virginia residents must add 5 percent sales tax. Make checks payable to the Virginia Genealogical Society. We can accept VISA and MasterCharge orders over the telephone if you will call our office on Tuesdays or Wednesdays, on (804) 285-8954. You may leave a message with your telephone number and we will return your call provided we may do so "collect." Also, you may send your written request via facsimile to (804) 285-0394, giving your charge card number, date of expiration, and name as it appears on the card.
