2014 NGS Family History Conference
Virginia: The First Frontier
5-10 May in Richmond

Sign up today to volunteer for the National Genealogical Society 2014 Family History Conference held 7-10 May 2014. Anyone volunteering at this conference will be given training on Monday, 5 May 2014. You will work at the Greater Richmond Convention Center (405 North 3rd Street) or the Richmond Marriott (500 East Broad St.).

To sign up, please complete this fillable PDF form.

Sign up for a shift or two or for the whole week in Richmond at the conference. You do not need to be a genealogist, so bring your friends and family to volunteer with you.

No previous experience is needed except where noted. It’s easy to sign up. After you have picked a job you like, just enter your information in the accompanying form and submit it. See the hours available under each job type. Choose morning or afternoon, or both. You will hear from Host Volunteer Co-Chair Don Moore by e-mail.

“Ask Me” Volunteers.  “Ask Me” volunteers are friendly, patient, and good with details. These volunteers walk the conference facilities answering questions about the location and times of lectures, food facilities, and restrooms. These volunteers wear “Ask Me” pins.

Room Monitors. Volunteer room monitors help during lecture sessions and follow separate instructions. They see that reasonable needs of speakers are met and make the attendees feel welcome. Volunteers check name badges as attendees enter the room. These volun-teers are familiar with the light controls and monitor the lighting and sound levels. The room monitor stays in the room between sessions to encourage the last speaker to stop answer-ing questions and pack up his/her equipment so the next speaker can set up. We need 10 volunteers for the morning shifts (7:30 a.m.- noon) and 10 volunteers for the afternoon shifts for each day, Tuesday through Saturday. In addition, we need 3 room monitors on Thursday evening.  The rooms will be assigned based on the room, not the lecture. Volunteers will stay in the same room all morning or all afternoon. Rooms will be assigned by the Volunteer Co-chairs, not by choice of lecture.

Hospitality Booth. The booth is located just outside the Exhibit Hall in the convention center. The Convention and Visitors Bureau will help support the Hospitality Booth and will help answer questions about area attractions, restaurants, historical sites, and research facilities.
