Members of the Virginia Genealogical Society enjoy:
  • The Magazine of Virginia Genealogy. Published quarterly; covers primarily Virginia records. Copies of back issues are available.
  • The Virginia Genealogical Society Newsletter. Published bi-monthly; winner of the 1996 and 1997 National Genealogical Society Newsletter Competition. Contains feature articles, queries, book reviews, column "Glad You Asked That...," and announcements. Back issues of the newsletter are available.
  • Names published in the Newsletter for Friends, Patrons, Benefactors or Life Members.
  • All conferences. Non-institutional members may register at a reduced fee.
  • Twenty percent discount on Society publications.
Note: Foreign membership is at the same rate; however, correspondence is sent via surface mail unless other arrangements are made. Rates effective September 10, 2006.

Donations to the Virginia Records fund defray the expense of publishing any of our books on Virginia records, such as land grants in the Cavaliers and Pioneers series or Wes Pippenger’s Virginia Estates which is an extensive index of all items found in will books on all counties in Virginia. The VGS provides these invaluable aids to Virginia researchers through contributions to this fund.

There are times when an unusual book or project comes to our attention; at that time the donations to the Special Projects Fund are utilized to offset the expense of such a publication or project.

The Stern-NARA fund is actually in collaboration with the Federation of Genealogical Societies; VGS serves as a conduit in collecting contributions that make possible finding aids and microfilming at the National Archives through Stern-NARA.
